South African Reserve Bank External Bursary Scheme for 2027
The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) External Bursary Scheme provides annual bursary support to qualifying prospective undergraduate students in relevant fields. The studies applicants intend to pursue should have a bearing on the functions and activities of the SARB, including its work in monetary policy, financial stability, banking regulation and related areas.
The published 2027 requirements include provisional acceptance into an undergraduate degree at a South African university, an average of at least 70% in the June Grade 12 or matric examinations, an age below 30 and demonstrated financial need. The final bursary award is subject to the applicant's final results and the SARB's selection process.
Applicants are required to submit examination results, proof of acceptance or a student number from a recognised institution and other supporting documents requested in the official application form. Potential bursars may be invited for interviews and successful applicants must sign a bursary agreement with the Reserve Bank.
The 2027 application deadline was 30 September 2026 and late applications were not accepted. Applicants should use the official SARB publication page to access the current advert and application form for a future cycle.
