Santam established its bursary programme through its Skills Development Academy to develop scarce and future-fit skills for the short-term insurance industry. The programme considers students entering their second, third or final undergraduate year, as well as Honours and selected postgraduate diploma students. Listed fields include actuarial science, data analytics, data science, statistics, insurance technical accounting, economics, finance, mathematics and risk management, alongside selected agriculture, engineering and construction programmes.

The bursary contributes towards costs subject to programme caps. The listed costs include registration and tuition, accommodation, learning materials, a laptop, a monthly allowance and travel or transport support. The main selection considerations are academic potential and motivation for a career in the insurance sector. The published minimum academic average is 65 percent for the undergraduate degree and latest examinations.

Applications for funding in 2027 had to be submitted through StudyTrust by 30 September 2026. The annual StudyTrust application season generally opens on 1 June and closes on 30 September, but applicants should check the Santam page for the requirements of a future cycle.
