The Western Cape Government established the Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme to develop skills in engineering, transport and the built environment. The programme awards external bursaries for full-time study at selected higher education institutions in the Western Cape. Its listed disciplines include Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Architecture and other approved built-environment fields.

Students can apply only for eligible programmes at the institutions identified by the Western Cape Government, namely the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University. The programme prioritises disadvantaged learners, especially women, students with disabilities and learners from rural communities. Support services and work-placement opportunities may form part of the programme.

The Western Cape Government states that applications close on 31 August. The 2027 cycle has therefore closed. Applicants should use the official online application system and confirm the next cycle dates and the current list of approved qualifications and institutions.
