City of Cape Town External Financial Support for 2027
The City of Cape Town offers external financial support each year to eligible students who live in Cape Town and are registered for full-time study at accredited institutions in South Africa, including TVET colleges. The support is intended for study costs such as registration, examinations and class fees.
Applicants must meet the City's residency and study requirements and must not already have another form of financial assistance, such as NSFAS funding. The City publishes a list of scarce skills and predetermined fields for each application cycle. Applicants should consult the current notice to confirm whether their specific qualification is included; the list should not be assumed to remain unchanged from one year to the next.
Supporting documents include a certified identity document. Grade 12 applicants must provide their Grade 12 or mid-year results and meet the academic average specified by the City. Full-time tertiary students must provide the relevant first-, second- or third-year academic transcript. Additional supporting information may be requested in the application process.
The City's published application period for the 2027 academic year closed on 31 August 2026. Late applications are not accepted. The page is retained as the official source for future annual opportunities and updated scarce-skills information.
