NSFAS Bursary Funding for 2027
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme provides government financial support to eligible students who cannot afford the cost of higher education and training. The 2027 application cycle is open to eligible applicants planning to study at a South African public university or TVET college. Applicants must complete the online application with accurate personal and household information and provide consent for the scheme to verify information through approved sources.
For bursary funding, verified SASSA grant recipients meet the financial eligibility requirement. Other applicants generally need a gross combined household income of R350 000 or less per year. The published income threshold for applicants with disabilities is R600 000 or less per year. Meeting an income threshold does not by itself guarantee an award because applicants must also meet the other academic, qualification and administrative requirements.
Funding can include tuition and approved allowances for eligible students. The exact allowance and support arrangements depend on the applicable rules, qualification and institution. Applicants should use the official NSFAS website to review the current requirements, complete the consent form, upload any documents requested for their circumstances and submit before the deadline. Applying is free. Applicants should never pay an intermediary who promises a guaranteed outcome.
